Real Estate

Saturday, January 5, 2008 | | |

Real estate is a legal term (in some countries including the USA) that encompasses the earth with anything permanently affixed to land, buildings, especially property which is stationary, or 'fixed location. [1] Real estate is often considered synonymous with real property (also sometimes called property), as opposed to personal property (also sometimes called chattel or personalty). However, in some cases, the term "property" refers to land and accessories as well, as distinguished from "real property", referring to the proprietary rights of the land itself.

The terms real estate and property are used primarily in common law, while civil law countries refer instead to real estate.
